Pet Memorial Book, DIY, Paying it Forward
Yesterday, September 13th was National Pet Memorial Day. The passing of a beloved pet is a hard time for any owner of any age. Today I’m sharing with you an amazing book that talks about “doggie heaven,” two easy DIY project, and a great way to “pay it forward” after your dog passes.
Talking to children about the loss of a pet can be a hard and difficult task and sometimes they just don’t understand. Dog Heaven is a great book/tool parents can use to help talk to their children during this difficult time.
Dog Heaven is wonderfully illustrated and beautifully written. As most families consider their dog part of the family, this book helps answer questions about “doggie heaven.”
Dog Heaven would make a great gift to help provide comfort to both children and adults.
“Mom will you stop taking pictures so I can finish this book.”
Here are two DIY project you can do either in honor of your pet or make as a gift.
The first project is adding a decal to a candle. This is an easy project anyone can do at any age and makes a wonderful reminder of the pet that was lost.
Directions
1. All you need as a candle of any size and as many decals as you want to put on your candle. I got this decal from Stylish Canine’s Etsy page. Stylish Canine sells decals of all shapes (paw prints, tennis balls, bones, dog breeds) and sizes. You can also find decals at most craft stores. If you have a Cricut machine you can make you own.
2. Simply place you decal facing up and rub over the top of the plastic with a hard, flat object. I used a credit card.
3. Peel off the back.
4. Place on your candle.
5. Take your flat object and rub over the entire plastic and the decal.
6. Slowly start removing the last piece of plastic. If the decal doesn’t stick to the candle you need to rub over the decal harder.
For this DIY Candle/Collar project all you need is a candle, close to the size of the collar, and a collar.
In the photo above I used Callie the Cat’s collar. (No she didn’t pass.) I just adjusted the collar to fit around the candle. If the collar is too big for the candle you many need to over lap the collar and tie it into place.
This is easy and a great way to display your beloved pet’s collar.
I was at the dog park a couple of weeks ago and noticed all these tennis balls around the park. At first I thought I was in heaven. But then we saw a bucket on the picnic table.
The bucket had a message on it saying,
“In Loving Memory of Moshe who has crossed the Rainbow Bride. Please help yourself to a ball for your dog to enjoy today! Love your dog extra today and remember the time we have with them is way too short!”
What a great way for the family to “pay it forward” and share Moshe beloved past time with others.
Like the message stated our time on this earth is way too short. Remember to cherish each and everyday you have with you pet.
I’m going to end this post with a very fitting quote:
“Dogs leave paw prints on our hearts.”
DIY Dog Wreath
I wanted to share with you one of my mom’s latest projects: a DIY Dog Wreath. Here is a list of supplies she used:
- Wire Wreath
- Wire
- Wire Cutters
- Fabric
- Tennis Balls
- Chain
- Bone Shaped Board
- Paint
- Leash or Bow
Even though I am in love with this wreath, do you know how hard it is not to tare it apart. The tennis balls just sit there staring at me saying, “Hahaha!” But, everyone who walks in the door loves it!

April Fools Day Prank: DIY Dog Poop
Happy April Fools Day!
Boy, do I have a good DIY prank for you all to do!
Making fake dog poop!!!
Fake Poop #1
- Supplies: Peanut Butter, Microwaveable Bowl, Spoon, Chocolate Syrup, Plate, Ziplock Bag, Scissors, (optional: seeds, raisins, corn, pudding)
- Scoop 2-3 spoonfuls of peanut butter into a microwaveable bowl.
- Then squirt a little chocolate syrup into the bowl and mix. Keep adding more until you reach the desired color.
- If you want add seeds, raisins, corn, or pudding to the mixture.
- Put the bowl into the microwave for about 30 seconds.
- Take the bowl out of the microwave and let cool for a few minutes, then mold it into the shape you want.
- Place the form into a ziplock bag and cut one of the corner tips of the bag.
- Squeeze it out of the bag on to a plate and make it into any shape you desire.
- Place plate into the fridge for about 5 minutes to let the form settle.
- Have fun and Prank away!!!
Fake Poop #2
- Supplies: 1/2 cup of white glue, brown paint, 1/2 cup warm water, 1 teaspoon of borax powder, two bowls, spoon
- In a bowl mix together 1/2 cup of white glue and a couple of squirts of brown paint. Start with less, you can always add more paint to achieve the color desired.
- In the other bowl mix 1 teaspoon of borax powder with 1/2 cup of warm water. Stir until mixture is dissolved.
- While stirring, combine the borax mixture to you glue/paint mixture. This will immediately start to thicken and become jelly like.
- Use your hands to knead the mixture for a minute until it leaves the sides of the bowl clean.
- Roll the new mixture into a ball then roll into a sausage shape while tapering one of the ends to a point and curl into a “poop” like shape.
- And let the pranking begin!!!
You can leave a “surprise” on the floor, in a bed, or on the front step for someone. Or can place it on a plate in the fridge with at notes stating “Stool Sample Collected on 4-1-15!”
Are you planning any good pranks today? Would love to hear about them!!!
*Please note that these are not edible, please supervise you pet and/or your children at all times if you are going to leave these out as a prank. Although I didn’t have any problems with this creations, there is a potential for them to stain fabric or carpet.
Homemade Animal Cards
Check out some of my mom’s animal quote cards she has made.
“No animal I know of can consistently be more of a friend and companion than a dog.” -Stanley Leinwall
“No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich.” -Louis Sabin
If you want the best seat in the house…move the dog.
A house is not a home without a dog.
“Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog.
-Sydney Jeanne Seward
“Whoever said you can’t buy happiness forgot little puppies.”
-Gene Hill
“Happiness is a warm puppy!”
-Charles Shultz
“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”
-Roger Caras
“A dog is man’s best friend and vice versa.”

My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am.

DIY Photo Blocks
With a little muscle and a delicate paw you too can make one of a kind photo blocks. This is a great project to make with your kids, for a gift or a great way to display multiple photos. Here is what you need and the steps to take to make your own photo blocks.
Supplies
3 4×4 Wooden Blocks
Sander/Sand Paper
Paint
Paint Brush
Mod Podge (Glossy)
Photos
Directions:
* With help from my humans, they went to Home Depot and had them cut three 4×4 blocks of wood.
*Once home we sanded down all the surfaces, corners and edges of the blocks.
*Using white wash colored paint I put about 3 or 4 coats of paint on each block. The wood soaked the paint up so fast. You apply as much or as little as you please.
*Next I went through a stack of photos and picked out my favorite ones. As you can see I tore the photos to give it a ruff look. You can cut, rip, or tear them.
*Finally, I brushed glossy Mod Podge on the bottom a photo and placed it on one of the sides. Pressing it firmly to the block making sure I got all the air bubbles out. Then, I took the Mod Podge and brushed a thin layer over the photo and the entire side of the block. This will help secure the photo to the block.
There you have it, simple and fun DIY Photo Blocks!
