Tasty Tuesday: Apples and Peanut Butter

October 22, 2013 by spencerthegoldendoodle 18 Comments

Last week my sister and I enjoyed a wonderful fall drive to Jim’s Apple Farm. Every year for the last 5 years we make this annual trip to get our pumpkins. However, we always end up leaving with more than just pumpkins.

Jim’s Apple Farm is famous for it’s largest selection of candy in Minnesota, homemade pies, pastries, caramel apples, nut rolls, ten foot long shelf of local fruit preserves, over four cooler cases holding dozens and dozens of small-brand sodas, and one whole case dedicated solely to root beer. Yep, they have the world’s largest section of pop (aka soda).  Not to mention the ceiling is lined with puzzles, from 50 pieces all the way up to 10,000 piece puzzles. Jim’s has everything you can’t find anywhere.

Like normal we leave with a big bag filled with apples, a pie, 6 different bottles of root beer, 2 caramel apples, a nut roll, and some gourds. Not to mention our 3 pumpkins.

When we arrived home Spencer saw the bag of fresh apples. So, I made him a treat with two of his favorite foods, apples and peanut butter. Since Spencer is a big dog he usually ends up with his own apple. So I simply cored out the middle and put peanut butter in the hole. For smaller dogs simply cut the apple into slices and spread peanut butter on them.

Apples with the skin on are a great source of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber for you dogs. Just make sure you remove all the seeds before giving it to your dog. When we make apple pies Spencer loves eating the pealings from the apples, that way none of it goes to waste.

This is a quick easy snack you can give to your dog anytime of the year. Most households have these two ingredients laying around already.

Happy Fall Everyone,
Brittany (aka Spencer’s Mom)

Note: Supervision is occurring the entire time Spencer is eating the apple to make sure he is biting off small pieces. Spence eats his apples with elegance and grace. If you dog takes big  bites or doesn’t chew much before they swallow, giving them a whole apple is discouraged.

The theme of Scoop That Poop blog hop #3 is Poop Poetry. Well, as you can tell that isn’t one of my strengths, but the message is the same.

Review & Giveaway: Pick Pocket Pouch

October 14, 2013 by spencerthegoldendoodle 8 Comments

I’m happy to introduce the “Pick Pocket Pouch” from Paww. Paww is a new, design-focused pet products company driven to make smart products for pets and their humans.
(Pick Pocket Pouch by Paww)

The “Pick Pocket Pouch” is easy to use. All you have to do is velcro it onto your lease and you are set to go. The design is sleek, fashionable (5 different colors to pick from) and made with durability in mind. It has two different pockets. The first pocket is big enough to hold up to one roll of bags. It has a dispensing slot on the back of the pouch for easy access to a bag. The other pocket is big enough to hold some keys, money, or other small items. Located at the end of the pouch is a loop that can come in handy to attach a carabiner, safety light or you can use it to hold a knotted end of your used bag.

I tested it out this past weekend on our benefit walk. I liked how it was easy to place, you simply have to velcro it to your leash. It didn’t weigh down the leash, or distract Spencer while he was walking. It laid flat and didn’t bounce all over the place. It was great to put my car key in since I didn’t have pockets and neither did Spencer’s kilt.

Spencer gives this product 4 paws up!

I would definitely recommend the Pick Pocket Pouch to those dog owners who like to go on walks, runs or just random adventures. Check out the Paww’s website for this and other products.

Disclaimer: I was provided two Pick Pocket Pouches free of charge for the purpose of this review and a give away. All opinions are my own and no other compensation was given.
