Hello Everyone and Happy Friday! Can you believe the weekend is almost here??? I’m so excited to finally be able to tell you, I’M A PUPSCOUT!
While at the BlogPaws Conference in June, I meet up with another pet blogger from Minnesota, Mary writer/owner of Whisker Fabulous. Mary was telling me about her conversation with PupScouts’s national leader, Tasha. And we decided to start our own Minnesota Troop PupScouts. More on the Minnesota Troop later in this post.
What is PupScouts?
- PupScouts are similar to Boy and Girl Scouts but only for dogs.
- PupScouts is about learning, education, making a difference and most important bonding with your humans and other dog lovers.
Where are the Troops?
- There are two forms of Troops in PupScouts:
- Physical Troops
- There are many troops located through out the country as well as Canada.
- If there is a troop near you that you join, they hold meetings, social events where you can earn badges, as well as events that help out the community.
- Online Troop
- If there isn’t a troop near you but you want to join, you can! Troop 50 is a online group, mostly through Facebook, that you still earn badges and meet other PupScout member.
- Starting a Troop
- PupScout is always looking for new Leaders to start who are interested in starting a Troop.
- If you are wanting to start a Troop here are the initial steps you need to take:
- 1st - Become a PupScout member of Troop 50.
- 2nd - Contact a National Leader.
- 3rd - Come up with a Troop number!
- Physical Troops
Are there membership fees?
- Start Up Fee
- When you first join the PupScouts, the initial membership fee is $50. That includes:
- Messenger Bag -Blue & Yellow or Brown & Pink
- Member Id Card
- Welcome folder with stationary and stickers
- When you first join the PupScouts, the initial membership fee is $50. That includes:
- Annual Fee
- $25
Like I said, PupScouts is about having fun, bonding with other dogs and dog lovers and earning badges. Once you have done the necessary steps to earn your badge, you can buy it at there store for just $2.
Here are just a few of the many badges your pup could earn as a PupScout:
- Cooking is Fun
- Parade
- Fire Safety
- First Aid
- Food Drive
- April Fool’s
- Cinco de Mayo
- St.Patrick’s Day
- Movie Night
- Earth Day
- Arbor Day
- Halloween
- Animal Adoption
- Nursing Home Caroling
- Carnival
- Pen Pals
What would a PupScout be without a uniform? Although getting a uniform is totally optional but I must say, the girls look adorable in there dresses and the boys sure look handsome in their shirts and ties. Here are the options when it comes to uniforms and how much they cost (please note the prices are the starting cost, if you pup is bigger they may cost more and the price doesn’t include tax):
- Official Uniforms
- Girls - PupScout Girl Uniform, complete with Sash for your Badges. Beret sold separately. $65
- Boys - Navy Blue PupScout Uniform with Yellow Necktie, $55
- PupScout Shirt with Logo
- Girls - Brown and Pink, $25
- Boys - Navy Blue and Yellow, $25
- PupScout Bandana
- Girls - Brown and Pink, $12
- Boys - Navy Blue and Yellow, $12
There are many ways to accessorize your PupScout, from leashes to canteens. As well as PupScout clothing for humans, too! Make sure you visit their store to see all they offer both you and your PupScout!
Now, lets talk about the Minnesota Troop we want to start up! After much consideration on our Troop number (most places use their area code) we decided on Troop 1999! After thinking about what number best represents Minnesota, we came up with 1999 after the late Prince’s song “Party Like It’s 1999,” who is from Minnesota. If you live in Minnesota and would like to join our troop please either email me or leave a comment below! We would love to have you join our troop!
I would like to end this post with the PupScout Pledge:
“On my honor
I will try to do my duty to help the dog community and my country.
To help make humans smile,
and to be there to guard and protect especially those at home.”
