It’s my favorite time of the year and I can’t wait to share it with my little sister, River! I’m so excited to share this years Halloween costume and how we got River into her costume. But first, we couldn’t have done it without the help from Zuke’s and their Mini Ghosts!!!
In our house we love Zuke’s Mini treats, at less than 3 1/2 calories each they are wonderful tool for training. Not to mention, their Mini Ghost’s are adorable! Zuke’s is made right here in the USA and fortified with vitamins and minerals and completely free of harsh additives, preservatives, and the common allergens wheat, corn and soy. These Ghosts are turkey and pumpkin flavored and contain antioxidant-rich rosemary and turmeric to support a healthy lifestyle.
Being the nice big brother I am, I needed to show River how this costume gig works. I wanted to show her there isn’t anything to be scared of and the rewards of lots of treats is totally worth it!!!
Now, it was River’s turn. Since she has never worn a costume before, these are the 3 steps we took to ease the process.
- First, we put the tutu on her several days before our event. Every time she went to bit it our human’s gave her the command to “Leave It.” The second she let go or left it alone she got a Zuke’s Ghost as a reward.
- Next, we left the tutu on her and had her wear it around the house increasing the time frame each time. While she was wearing the tutu someone was always watching her to redirect her if she started to bit or pull on the tutu. For redirecting it was the same as step 1.
- Finally, we put the wig on River. We only put the wig on while taking pictures and at the event during the costume contest. While taking pictures with her complete costume, every time she look at the camera she received a Zuke’s Ghost. This help positively reinforce the task we wanted her to be doing.
It wasn’t easy and it took time and patience, actually a lot of time and patience. But, in the end we were able to get a picture of the two of us together and looking at that camera!
I want to know, what is your pet going as for Halloween???
